Arusha Urban Sewerage and Water Authority (AUWSA) has put in place a borehole in Ilkiurei Village worth Shs. 125 million.
The borehole will benefit thousands of the village residents including those of the neighbouring villages who have been facing acute water problems for long time.
Launching the project, Arusha’s District Commissioner, Mr. Raymond Mushi urged the residents to guard the water sources and report to authorities those who spoil them.
He said that many residents have been degrading the environment while they are aware that is not only an offence to do so , but their actions also cause drought.
Mr. Mushi noted that AUWSA should brace to increase water supply and boost coverage from 85 to 100 percent so as to serve the entire urban population.
“I am asking my fellow residents to collaboration with AUWSA in conserving water sources so that our stakeholders could come up with more projects,” said Mr. Mushi,
Earlier, the Managing Director of AUWSA, Engineer Asili Munisi said his authority has been developing more water sources as the demand for water increases particularly due to population and expansion of the area.
According to Engineer Munisi the major challenge, which they are facing was power shedding as it affects water pumping and distribution.
